Dear Flowers:
I was fuming in History. 1st of all cause Mr. Hooker had said for Arturo, Mark & Felicia to be ready for today so I didn’t do mine & so now I get a letter grade LESS!!! 2nd he had told me I would have gotten a A on outline & now I get a B+. Uh!! I got my picture taken. I was shaking posing for the photo (I was so mad). I stayed after. I went to C.C. with Seehafers. I kept score for Steve & Lauren when they bowled. Saw El loco. Got a letter from Myra Ann.
BYE!!!
Mom & Dad at Murphys.
Note: Have you ever been that mad that you just shook? Fortunately I haven’t felt that way in a long time but I remember the feeling. Not fun!
I don’t remember who El loco was or why we called him the crazy one.

Dear Flowers,
Was in a bad mood this morning. I did my report on “EL Greco” PRAY that I do get well on Mon. I finished the Book on “Fog Magic” I didn’t quite under-stand it. The Murphy’s (new ones) came over. They have 2 boy 11 & 8 I think. Paul & John. We went to the English Church. Played part of Dating Game. Watched abit of T.V. Read on “The Limmer's Daughter. PLEASE make Grandpa come out ok.
BYE!!
Note: I did my report on El Greco, a famous artist from the 17th century. In many of his paintings he elongated his subjects, which some speculated to be from an eye disorder. Some believe he was the precursor to cubism. We saw some of his beautiful paintings when we visited the Museo de Greco in Toledo, Spain, earlier that year. I wrote about the Spain trip on the March 25-27, 1972 posts.
Fog Magic was about entering a magical fog into a new world and life. I found it confusing but it won awards.
The Dating Game was a TV show in the U.S. where a girl or a guy would sit and couldn’t see the three prospective date candidates and ask them questions. Based on their answers, they would choose one to have a date with. I didn’t get to see the show except when we visited my grandparents in the U.S. We had the fun board game.

Dear Flowers:
Slept in. I read on the best book & finished it “Limmers Daughter” I really liked it. We went out to eat to the Terraza. I washed my hair. I study my oral report on El Greco. I sure hope I do it well. Watched T.V. Wrote a letter to Mary. Pray I do good on my speech & that Grandpa comes through alright.

Note: The Limner’s Daughter was about a family who moved back to the father’s home after becoming destitute many years of a mysterious family feud. The town all seem to resent them and the daughter tries to figure out the mystery and make peace.
Oral reports terrified me so I was very stressed.

Do love how you have Flowers - now letting you retrace your steps and sharing them with us. Not sure I qualify as an overseas brat - second generation Gringa born and raised in Mexico/Nicaragua, but do enjoy looking back with you! Tootsie
Your Mr. Hooker looks like a real taskmaster....much resembles my 10th & 11th grade maths teacher (the British refer to it in the plural). Mr. Wedgewood, decidedly English, concise quiet diction, perfectly pressed suit, Windsor-knotted tie, never smiled, with a sense of humour (I see what you did there) so dry we were too young to see it at the time.
One of the top infractions was gum chewing, a habit that seemed to befall one of the 2 gringas in the class more than others. The wad was to be brought up and deposited into his palm. The other infraction was not paying attention, usually on the back row. This could result in being struck by a perfectly ai…
Oh yes, to be so angry you shake is unpleasant; but from your description of the event it was more a case of moral indignation! You’d been lulled into a sense of false security that day. Sometimes it’s necessary to get our hackles up, isn’t it?
