December 17, 1972 Sun.
Dear Flowers:
We made sugar cookies. We went to super. Dad took us to the Terraza to eat. Worked on my Robot custom with Dave. Played jax. Watched T.V. Saw 2 good movies but don’t know names on T.V.
BYE!!!
Note: La Terraza restaurant was a favorite place to eat. We didn’t go that often, which made it more special.
I found Mom’s sugar cookie recipe on her company notepaper. As a secretary, she had beautiful penmanship.

Dear Flowers:
Went to C.C. Played tennis. Charles Anstead was their. Becky & I played volleyball in pool. It was helado. Ate lunch over at C.C. At 1:00 went to Drama. Practized & Practiced. We went down town with Seehafeirs (7 in a tiny Toyota) (Crunch!) Good 2 records “Old Fashion Love Song” - 45 - and “Grasshoper (I think 33)
Watched T.V. Talked to Pat.
BYE!!!
Note: The swimming pool was helado (very cold).
One of my favorite songs was “An Old Fashioned Love Song” by Three Dog Night. I saw them in concert 2 years ago, and they had only one original member, and to be honest, he looked like the walking dead. Scary!
A 45 RPM (revolutions per minute) vinyl record just had an A-side single song and a B-side bonus song. The 45s had a larger hole than 33-1/3 RPM long play (LP) records. Our record player had a piece you put in the middle to hold it in place. I played this record over and over. The Grasshopper Song by Barry McGuire was interesting but not one of my favorites.

Dear Flowers:
No school as yesterday. I read newspapers. Played jax. Had my tennis lesson. After tennis we went bowling. I bowled 53 & 69! It was fun. I watched T.V. Played jax. Dad was on T.V. They showed the Pan Am party. Talked to Pat, Diana & Mary (last 2 for just a few sec.)
BYE!!
Note: I loved being exempt from semester exams and not having to go to school.
It was exciting to see my Dad on TV. He threw some huge parties. I didn’t get to attend, but when they were at our house, the music and dancing went on to the wee hours.
There was a small bowling alley at the Nejapa Country Club. I believe it had six lanes. I was never good at it but had fun!
A friend shared this with me for any of my A.N.S. friends interested:
Subject: ANS Alumni, Let’s Reconnect & Register! / ANS Alumni Volvamos a Conectar y Regístrate!

Those were the day at the Nejapa Country Club - an easy flow from tennis courts, to bowling alley to swimming pool and up to the snack place above the bowling alley with pool tables. Always something fun to do with friends! THE LIFE!
When we got to Nicaragua in 1958 we were only familiar with records with 78 and 33 RPMs. Soon friends showed us a record shop on Roosevelt St that had the little 45 RPM, new to us. Of course coming from Mexico we had to be taught about Dick Clarks's American Bandstand music.
So fun Susie to reminess about our "otra vida!" Tootsie
Wow, interesting, the various telephone formats on that notepaper. What years did your Mom work there? I still remember our phone no. from the late 50's in Mission, Kansas: HEdricks 2-4604.
I pulled up "Old Fashioned Love Song" on YouTube, and it brought back memories...it was on the radio all the time when we returned to the States in '72. Danny Hutton is same age as Mick Jagger, and LOL, we'll all probably look like the living dead if we make it to that age!
I never collected 45's, maybe because I only became interested in popular music in my mid teens, and LP's were the thing by then. The only 45's I've still got are several Golden Book Disney…
Love reading your entries and seeing the pictures, rekindles my memories there. Funny that the recipe is written on Sewer ad notepaper.
Susan, I love that you have such detailed memories of your childhood.
Enjoying reading your diary! Bobby Sherman last week mention was fun. Three Dog Night music is a good memory too. Good to see you on zoom restorative yoga class. It was great. Mg
