Dear Flowers:
A more or less rotten day!! Julio barely talked to me. I think he’s mad at me. Michelle got the part in Drama & I’m stuck as a rotten robot!!! Science test hard 3 questions took 4 pages! I stayed for the game. 10th grade lost 11 to 16 against 12th graders. Read on April Lady. Came home on bus. Becky’s having a slummber party. Lisa, Lauren, Cynthia & Monica. All nice kids. Told me all about their boyfriends. I feel so bad Robert Cazares asked Ann Barth to go steady! If she can be asked why can’t I!!
BYE!
Note: We all have rotten days, and this was a rotten one. Julio wasn’t talking to me, I didn’t get the part I wanted in the play, our basketball team lost, and to top it off, Becky’s friends all seemed to have boyfriends, but I didn’t. Even though my Dad would not have allowed it, I wanted to be asked.

Dear Flowers:
I finished “April Lady” last night & started “Up the Down Stair Case” It’s funny. Steves having a birthday party Dec. 1. It should be fun. Girls all left. Gisela invited me over but I told her no. Listened to records. Played stop. Mom & Dad went out. I wrote Missy & then her family. Bonnie’s going to have a baby & Missy’s having her tonsils out. Dads leaving tomorrow to Caracas. Pray he comes back safe & alive. Practised dancing.
BYE!!!
Note: I loved to read, and Up the Down Stair Case was eventually turned into a movie.
Loved how I kept up with Missy. Exciting news that her sister Bonnie was going to have a baby.
Not great news about Missy getting her tonsils out, especially as she was (is) terrified of needles.

Dear Flowers:
Dad left for Carcas via Costa Rica. We went to mass & then we ate lunch at Bar Deportiva C.C. Came home watched T.V. Helped mom cut up mushrooms & nuts for Thanksgiving. I made the Dip for the apetegiser. I finished “Teen” Mag. I read on Up the Down Stair Case”. Watched T.V. Had left over spaggatti for Supper. Yum!!!
BYE!!!
Note: I always worried when Dad would travel. He was flying to Venezuela for business.
Dad always managed to get us turkey from the U.S., and Mom made her traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We usually had quite a few people over, as this was not a holiday celebrated in Nicaragua. We often invited crew members and others alone for this holiday.

I might have been the “Lauren” friend at Becky’s party. Sure glad I was a nice kid (!) but I sure don’t remember having a boyfriend - unless the big crush on your brother counted 😂
I bet you were the best rotten robot ever! I love your take on apetegisers 😀 I had heard of Up the Down Staircase, but didn't ever read it or check it out. Sounds interesting 😃
Loved the story about school days. Brings back tons of memories. Going to look for Up the Down Staircase and watch it.
I saw the movie "Up the Down Staircase" when it came out, and really liked it; had a catchy music score, too. Saw it on You Tube again recently, and it seemed pretty dated. Sandy Dennis played the role well, and it was fun to see Jean Stapleton (Edith Bunker) in there also.
I can't make any improvement on "apetegiser".....that's what I see too. We called them "bocas" (for "bocaditos") as in "Mom, can you fix bocas tonight?" Apparently "aperitivo" is the correct word, and I'd never heard of "tapas" which seems to be popular now too.
Oh, I loved "Up the Down Staircase" - "Let it be a challenge to you" became one of my favorite sayings.
