Class reunion 2004
A.N.S. Reunion 2004: Bill C, Bill F, Julio, Mark, Mayra, Catherine and me

April 10, 1973 Tues.

Dear Smiley:

We got a new boy in school & on my bus!!! WOW!!! History test hard!!! I worked in fresco stand with Chui it was pretty fun. Bill & Julio are really neat guys. I swear I have never laughed so much as with them in Geometry. My geometry grades decreases but at least my sense of humor is increasing. Went outside. We tried to have a seance but NO luck. I wish Alvaro would like me so we could be good friends.

Note: I wonder who the new boy was? He must have been cute to warrant a WOW! Julio and Bill were always fun to joke around with. I saw them both at an A.N.S. reunion in South Florida in 2004. They hadn’t changed much.

I don’t remember who Alvaro was.

Diary April 10-11, 1973

April 11, 1973 Wed.

Dear Smiley:

Mary’s Birthday. She’s 20. I went to Dentist at 8:30 to get my wisdom tooth pulled. It took 6 injection to deaden my mouth. Since my wisdom teeth are impact (imbedded or however you say it) it was harder to get it out. Took 45 min. I keeping the tooth which is huge!!! I got to stay home with an ice pack. We showed the neighborhood our house. Wrote Grandma & Grandpa. Reading on “Frederica” Wish me luck for Biology.

BYE!!!

Note: I still keep up with Mary as we talk every few weeks!

I have always needed more pain meds or anesthesia than most people when I have a procedure done. Not fun. I kept the tooth, and believe it or not, I still have the whole set of extracted teeth. My excuse was that someone might ever need my DNA, haha.

Dear Smiley:

Went to school. Brought my tooth with me. I got my history test back 87. Mouth is swollen abit. I went to Dr. earlier in the morning. When I got home I went to Marta birthday party. It was O.K. Didn’t stay out to late. Studied.

BYE!!!

Note: I looked like a chipmunk but was a trooper going to school. I bet people were pretty grossed out to see my tooth. I was proud of it!

Ouija Board

April 10, 1973, Tues. (David’s Diary)

Dear Snoop,
Today I had fun. I slept in. School was alright. Typing we had to do a sheet. I flubbed up on it. Science is boring. I barely understand it either. Steve’s getting a mini bike. Today I finished my Spanish report. It’s sloppy. Outside I didn’t do much. We tried to play quiji, we couldn’t. It’s stupid anyways. Pat or Hilda didn’t come out today.

Note: Quiji I think was a misspelling of the word “Ouija” and I believe we we trying to make the board give us answers. Clearly, I didn’t think much of it. Then again, maybe I was referring to something else.

Richard Barton

April 11, 1973 Wed. (David’s Diary)

Dear Snoop,
Today was alright. I did and didn’t have fun. In the morn, Sue went to get her wisdom tooth out, Beck and I went swimming with the Seehafers. We ate lunch there. Boy was I full. Richard Barton owes me 32 cordobas. At school I ran water but I was still thrirsty. I couldn’t walk. Outside I had mas o menos fun. I gave the girls a tour through our house.  Everybody is teasing me with Blanca.. I really don’t like her. I like Hilka, Patricia and Carmen. I like Blanca only as a friend.
G’night.

NOTE: Mas o menos means more or less. 32 cordobas translates to about $4.50. Quite a lot of money back then. I wonder what that was about.

April 12, 1973, Thursday (David’s Diary)

Dear Snoop,
Today was alright. I got I know two wrong in Algebra which is 86. Span. test tomorrow which is murder. Well I went to Marta’s party. Asking Sue if I was invited. She (like said it) didn’t ask. I asked Tairo (sp?) and he said yes. But then I found out that I and all the other boys had crashed in.
Today I got in a fight. Carlos Alberto hit a pole with a stick and it hit me. I said stop. Did it again. I grabbed him by his chest. Jose twisted his arm, and when he bothered me again, I wapped him in the face. He cried then threw rocks, but calmed down. We played Oija. Called Count Dracula.
Good night

NOTE: Looks like the Ouija activities continued. I don't remember getting in any fights and don’t remember a Carlos Alberto.

Always fun to read!

Just curious did your parents encourage or require you to keep a diary? Did Becky keep one as well? Be it voluntary or not 😂

Diaries are such a treasure; we have decades of our Coverston grandmother's diaries... talking about the revolution in Mexico, visit from President Truman to Mexido City, the birth of all babies, planting of trees, tea parties, visits to the USA, ++++

Keep them coming Susie - Tootsie

What a wealth of materials and memories you have with your grandmother's diaries! I remember getting my first diary around age 10. I really enjoyed writing down my thoughts. Mom then made sure I got a new one every year. I have written off and on all of my life but some periods more than others. My sister doesn't remember using one. My brother did off and on too. I am so glad we did!

I'd never heard of a Ouija Board until moving back to the States as a senior in high school. Some neighbor kids brought one over a couple of times and it was pretty thrilling at first. It was pretty reliable on Yes / No answers, but the damn thing would never spell anything out for us. Hmmm...

Ouija must’ve been a universal fad as it even reached Lenoir City. Everyone so wanted it to be a thrilling experience, but it never was……
