Dear Smiley:
We went to mass. Stopped at the Trost for a bit. Then we went to the super. I was in a bad mood. I put up my PanAm poster. I read on my spanish book. Read on “Canary Yellow”. We took Gretel for a walk & gave her a bath. The Hingst, Japanese Embassador & wife & Mr. Murphy came over for supper. Went out. Going to read abit. Dads going to Guatemala. Pray he has a safe trip & comes back well & alive.
BYE!!!
Note: My parents entertained a lot. We always had people over, which made our house quite lively, I guess that is why I too like to entertain.
“Canary Yellow” by Elizabeth Cadell is a mystery story about a young beautiful girl who wins a cruise to the Canary Islands and encounters intrigue and danger.

School I bit boring today. We had Spagatti!!! Dads in Guatemala & I miss him. Went outside. I sat & talked to Alvaro for awhile on the curb. WOW!!! No he just nice. He probably thinks I’m weird.

Note: I truly hated gym, and Miss Hecker was definitely not my favorite teacher.
I always stressed when my Dad traveled and worried about his safety.

Dear Snoop,
I forgot to write on you. I just woke up. Yesterday we went to church and tried to get me shoes. The stores were closed. When we got home we took Gretle for a walk. She had no chain. We used Pennies. Today we’re going to get her one. The Hingsts came over and the Murhpies. Beck and I against Doug and (David) Hingst at the ANS in BB. They beat us 18 / 14. We got home at 7:00 and ate. First time Beck plays. Later we play cops and robbers and later 23 puntas Doug and Beck and I played. Not so fun. I libre the people about 3 times. I’d just run in and no one could stop me. Sue came later and David read comics. I didn’t do science
Note: Gretle was our little short-haired dachshund dog, and Penny was a powerful Boxer breed. I wish I could find pictures of them. I’ve somehow misplaced my old photo albums!

Dear Snoop,
Today was better. That’s all I can say. I got new shoes. Two pairs, and when we got hoe I wore them around. School was alright, better than I expected. Got a 100 on math test. I’m exempt from the one tomorrow. When I got home I took Gretle and PENNY for a walk. Beck took Gretle. I took Penny. We had fun. Scared the kids outside. I had Yuck: Played a bit. Stopped and talked. I made a fool of myself. I was acting like I didn’t understand a joke and they believed me. Cabra kept calling me a dumbbell. The heck with him. Now who do I like? Carmen, Blanca, Cynthia, - who? Carmen would be first choice but Blanca’s nice but she just goes around with Olga ignoring everyone else. I’ve grown. My shoes aren’t much smaller than Dad’s.
Note: Taking our dogs for a walk was a major event. On one outing, Penny got loose and chased everyone in sight. I finally got to her when she ran in someone’s kitchen. Cooks were standing on the counters screaming for help.

Hi Snoop,
Today was good. I guess yesterday I was too busy writing other things or I was too sleepy to write about Dad being in Guatemala. Left yesterday, back today. School was alright. You know what got me mad? I was exempt from math. Ricky Johnson asked me why I wasn’t taking it. - told him and he said, Look you show me math and I’ll teach you how to play basketball - while I’m there with a Basketball.
You know all this talk about rabies, I’m afraid I’m going to get it. From chic or what if Penny has it? Dad’s going to check on it. Cps and Robbers alright, I’m not playing tomorrow though, It’s getting boring.
I can see myself,10 years later, looking through this, reading this and that and thinking what a fool I am.
My ankles look normal but my arch is down.
NOTE: I’m not sure why I was upset by Ricky’s offer. He was the PE coach's son and a good player. Perhaps I didn’t think I needed to be taught or that he thought I had no idea of how to play. I should have taken him up on his offer considering how much I wanted to improve my game!
I had flat feet and pronated my ankles inward. My new shoes supposedly corrected for both. Thankfully my feet are fine today!
Interesting to see me reflecting on reading my journal 10 years into the future…

Always a good read. Just curious-was the worry about your dad alwas there? Or did it start after the earthquake (or maybe increase after that)?
I love the Pan Am poster; it’s really wonderful and very much of it’s time.
Always enjoy the entries! Takes me bak to the '70s and our time in Managua and at ANS
Fun as always!
