Dear Flowers:

Dave’s birthday. He got a tennis racket, my book, a decoration for his bike (I drew a drawing of the gift) for wheels color-ful. In English I got an 86 for mobil & all. All that trouble!! In science I got an 85. P.E. we had sliding. Since most of us won’t do it we had to run around the field twice. I thought my heart would explode. Went to Pats house. Talked & played jacks. Las Gemelas ended. Dave’s 14 years old.

I wrote Missy a 9 or 10 page letter.

BYE!!!

Note: David’s birthday was always special. He was born on my Grandmother Fisch’s birthday. She said he was the best birthday gift when he was born.

How frustrating for us all - we worked so hard on the mobile, only to get it all tangled up when we presented it.

Las Gemelas was a Mexican soap opera about two identical twins who are separated at birth, only to meet as adults with lots of hidden family secrets and drama exposed.

Dear Flowers:

School!!! Nothing to much new. Worked in big library today. Came home. Read on “A Room for Cathy.” Its beneath my age level but good besides the point. Studied abit. Read English story & took a bath. Cleaned my hair. I read on Science but fell a sleep. Watched T.V. USA won China!!! I just found out that were having our pictures taken tomorrow at 1:00. I hope I come out good for a change. Wish me luck & pray I do good on Science test.

BYE!!!

Note: “A Room for Cathy” is about a young girl whose family moves to a house from a cramped apartment.  She is thrilled to have her own room. This is short-lived when family finances are threatened, and she has to give up her room to share with her sister.

Dear Flowers:

Xmas is coming! 24 more days! Science test hardish! Came home ate lunch. I went with Pat over to Simmons. I played the trick of the glass over 2 fingers on Simmone. Her reactions were hilarious. I went to Steves Party. We took Mary Lucas, Jenni Lucas & Dynnie Boalt. It was a great success. I danced up a storm as Mom said. With Paul Feigel, Bobby Hardgrove, Bill Chance, Steve, Dave. We played game. The one of blowing the ping pong was fun. The food divine!! I never danced so much in my life. I love to. The trick is to ask the boys out.

BYE!

Note: I wish I remembered the trick I played on Simone. I could impress my kids today!

It is funny, I remember being a wallflower during my teenage years. I am proud of my younger self taking the initiative and not waiting for a boy to ask me to dance.

Some of my favorite songs were Three Dog Night's version of Joy to the World, Don McLean's American Pie, The Hues Corporation's Rock the Boat, and many more.

Hi, another jammed packed adventure of the American girl and her family living in a Spanish speaking country. I

never knew you were such a dancer! We wasted too many days walking on our breaks when we could have been dancing!!!

Yes, we could have been dancing instead of walking during our lunch breaks at school! We still had a lot of fun and laughs! ❤️

I remember my sisters playing Jacks a lot in C.R. I think the Ticos called it "yaques" or some similar phonetic pronunciation of the English word (do you remember what the Nicas called it?) Turned out that the young Costa Rican girls loved to play this also, so it was a good way for my sisters to assimilate and learn Spanish.

I'm glad you took the initiative at the dance, as I'm sure I would have been one of those with whom you'd have had to ask to dance. I assume it was mixture of US/UK Pop-Rock and Latino hits. An interesting amalgamation of dance styles! (I wasn't into music too much until we moved to Bogotá in '71 an…

I have a theory, based on very little experience, that "righties" are more right dominant than "lefties" are left dominant. Of course, much is due to environmental factors such as some tools and musical instruments, etc. mostly shaped for righties, but in activities where it would seemingly not matter, lefties still "lead" with their right more than righties leading with their left.

I was the drummer in a small Rock band in college, and tho I didn't pursue it afterward, am still interested in drumming. Drums are not "handed", rather the set is arranged in a standard pattern for right handers, and simply reversed for lefties. I know of no righties that play a left-arranged set, but there are numerou…

All that trouble! What a grownup expression of exasperation; it rather fits with your ( very grownup) assessment you were reading a book below your grade level. But then you’ve always been one with a strong sense of self reflection.
