Dear Diary:
Mom & Dad have been married 16 years today. The serenating was nice but noisy. They came in & had drinks to 2. Made enough noise. I hope to get a good grade on Science & History & Spanish. Stayed for Drama. It was so funny. I really laughed hard. Balbino picked me up & then went (after I had gotten something to drink at home) to pick up David & Becky. Then we picked up mom & Trost. Saw the dog’s puppies cute. I read papers. Watched T.V. Dad’s leaving for London tomorrow please make him arrive & come back safely & well in health.
BYE!!!
Note: I think it is funny that I was bothered by the noise. Usually it is the parents who object to their teen’s parties.
Balbino, my Dad’s driver, often picked us up in the Pan Am bus. It was so cool! Balbino was a big part of my youth. He taught me how to make piñatas, kites and was a good listener. He always looked out for us.
I was quite the worrier and always fretted about losing my Dad. I always made him promise that his plane would not crash. How silly is that but he always promised.

Dear Diary:
Got up a bit late. Ate & then I went back to bed. I read on the book I read on last night “Sleep in the Woods” by Dorothy Eden. Anja loaned it to me. I read it all afternoon. Buh! Dad left today for London. We went to the English mass. I think I like the Spanish mass better. Watched the Partridge Family & Brady Bunch. Mom went to the Watkins party. Mr. Ossi took mom. PLEASE MAKE Dad have a safe & successful trip.
BYE!!
Note: When Mom lived here, I always took her to the Spanish mass as she preferred it to the English. She loved the music and she was okay not understanding the sermon. She loved seeing all the kids. Many were my students so she always had a supply of lollipops to share.
Mr. Edward Ossi was in charge of Texaco in Nicaragua. His daughter Anita was a good friend of mine. When we moved to Puerto Rico we found out they too had moved there. It was fun reconnecting.
“Sleep in the Woods” took place in the wilderness of New Zealand. It was about an eligible wealthy bachelor who falls for a servant girl.
I loved the Partridge Family. The spoken parts were dubbed in Spanish but the songs were all in English.

Dear Diary:
David sick. Probably the measles. I sleeped in. Mom made breakfast. I finished the book yesterday. Mom’s giving a whole bunch of books away so I looked through & picked some out. I have a cold. I read & finished a real good book about a nurse. “Jane Arden, Surgery Nurse” by Kathleen Harris. I watched T.V. Sphaggheti for supper & cheese-lemon pie yum. PLEASE help me be a better person. Help me help others & make friends.
BYE!!!
Note; Mom made the best spaghetti. I wish I had her recipe. She made special meatballs with Italian sausage.
So much fun to read each week! Love it. Yes, you are a wonderful caring , helpful person. So glad I met you!
Thanks Susie for bringing up Balbino - he too was part of my youth. We carpooled with the Hewins family from kilometer 13 to school. Mr. Hewins headed up PanAm in Nicaragua before your Dad. On the way home from school Balbino would be waiting in the line of cars - uniform, cap and all driving the PanAm station-wagon. Do not remember him talking to us on the way home, but he made me feel important - that PanAm SWAG!
Do remember the Texaco - Ossi family - very fine people. Thanks for the trip down memory
lane. Tootsie
Touching entries today showed your care for your family. I'm sure you all hoped your dad traveled safely since he did so a lot. My teen Friday nights when I did t have organ lessons or babysit were Brady Bunch and Partridge Family too. Saw a post recently that Shirley is now 90 I think. Well, your diary answered your request because you are one of the kindest and most caring people I know!🤗
Loved Balbino!
Great memories!
