Dear Flowers:
School not to bad today. P.E. teacher seems so nice just the opposite of Mrs. Burton! History is the same subject as last year but more interesting. I did homework. Went over to Simmons house. Talked to Karron & Sarah for a while. Coronel Trost came over. Watched T.V. Wish me luck in school today.
BYE!!
Note: First days back at school are unsettling trying to figure out new classes, teachers and friends.
Colonel Trost and his wife Connie were good friends of my parents. She introduced me to Almond Roca candy which I love. It's hard to find now.

Dear Flowers:
In the spelling quiz I got an 95! I have a Science test tomorrow. Michelle read my palm & it said I would have 2 loves in my life, 4 kids & that I’m a flirt! Went to tennis lesson. Really had fun. We played a love set David & Becky against Steve & I. We won 4-2. Yeah! Talked to Simmon & Gisela. Watched T.V. Washed my hair. Read newspaper. Did homework. Wish me luck with Science Quiz!!
BYE!!
Note: Wow, I don’t remember Michelle reading my palm but she was good. I married two times. The first time I was very young, naive and it didn’t last. The second round, I found true love. I did have four children, but lost two with miscarriages. The flirting part is questionable (smile).

Dear Flowers:
Lets see now. We have to do a oral 10 min report for Hooker & if class is bored with it you get F. Had Biology test. P.E. was fun did all kinds of weird exercises. Pat & I went for a walk & talked & then Simmons. Noni invited us to a new Youth Group at 5:30. Pat’s Dad drove us. We played all sorts of game. I got Bill Chance as my partner in Funny Bones. Fun! It was all together fun. Pheifers were there. Dad drove Pat & I home.
BYE!!!
Note: Mr. Hooker’s oral reports really stressed me out. It was good for me to learn to stand in front of a class and present but I hated it. I would get so nervous that I would rush through my report. It came in handy in college and teaching so I am grateful for most of our teachers at A.N.S. making us do oral presentations.
Noni was one of my favorites. She was a grade ahead of me, always so friendly and outgoing. I was thrilled to be invited and had a wonderful time.
I had never played Funny Bones and it was fun. Two people had to hold large cards between them using only the body part mentioned on the card.

I wonder how Mr Hooker decided if class thought the report was boring to the class or not? They didn't hold back on giving you quizzes soon after you started school- maybe to access prior or retained knowledge? Do you remember if the youth group was affiliated with a church or just got together? The palm read did apply ( don't know about the flirting part, but you do have a positive personality that makes you shine! ).
I can't remember being able to get Almond Roca in C.R. or Colombia, but we could by Tobleron, a similar candy, tho too expensive for our meager allowances.
We weren't at a loss for good "affordable" candy in C.R. tho; walking home from school, we'd stop at the street vendor and buy a pocketful of Morenitos, Guayabitas and my favorite, Copetines, (all made by the famous Confites Gallito, a now 115 year-old Tico candy company). I suspect by 1972, Gallito candy may have been exported to other L.A. countries as well.
Oh, and don't forget Chicklets! (tho chewing in class was a huge no-no).
PS - correction: it was Kaye's grandfather not yours - ooops
Well, the snow here is hanging around waiting for the next - think your grandfather had a good term for us to use... . Love Almond Roca too... find it at CVS here.
Ms. Hooker was at ANS in my day too... my memory of her is she was quite serious. Would you agree? Tootsie
My grandfather always said when snow stayed on the ground for a long time, it was hanging around waiting for the next one. We will see!
