Dear Diary:
I had EDT test 5 periods with 15 min. recess at the end. Uh!!! Im tired. I had my tennis lesson I’m tired again. I read on Bells on there Toes. I took a bath: I’m getting a tan. I studied. I tried to sleep but couldn’t. I watched T.V. Pray please that Dad doesn’t die soon of being too fat or any other reason. He keeps eating candy, cake etc. and he’s not supposed too. I have to study for English test. Wish me luck!
BYE!!!
Note: My Mom said I inherited the “worry gene” from her side of the family. My Dad was a big man both in size and personality. He loved food. The doctors were always telling him to lose weight or he would die early. He never listened, which activated my “worry gene.” The wonderful irony is that my Dad lived to the age of 81 and joked he outlived all the doctors that told him to lose weight.
I believe the EDT was EPT and stood for Every Pupil Test of Basic Skills also known as the Iowa Assestment tests.

Dear Diary:
Bosika is in my math class, He didn’t reconize me or just ignored me to be truthful could care less. I goufed up the poem & I knew it very well!!! Uh! I flunked English test. I stayed for Glee Club, Were singing “Whats it all about, Whats it all about” & Fiddler on the roof. I like both of them. I did my homework. Washed my hair. Tired. Watched T.V.
BYE!!!
Note: I always thought I had flunked when in reality I hadn’t. I guess thinking I failed was my coping mechanism, and if I did well I would be pleasantly surprised.

Dear Diary:
In P.E. were playing soccer. I’m going to be duck footed. Lets see. I stayed for Y.B. & the game. We really cheered it was fun. I typed some of Y.B. Anja dislocated a bone. I had loads to do today. I outlined Science for test. Did math & Spanish homework. I have a Spanish report due Tues. pray I finish it in time havent started. Mom & Dad went out. People kept calling so I’d tell them it was K.M.S. They go nasty about wanting to make love with Roberto their so-called hubby. I finished Bells on their Toes.

Note: We often got prank calls and at that time, there was no way to screen your calls. We did not have caller I.D., last number redial or answering machines so you had to answer every call in case it was legitimate. I remember my Dad got us a beige princess phone with a private line as he was frustrated with the house line always being busy - a big deal at that time.
I am not sure what K.M.S is but after consulting with my sibilings we are thinking it mean't Kilometer 5 or 8.
“Bells on their Toes” by Frank B. Gilbreth & Ernestine Gilbreth Carey was the sequel to “Cheaper by the Dozen”. Both were fun books to read.

You Managuans often refer to a location as Kilometer so and so...was this because you lived on the main road, or in a neighborhood close to that KM marker? Or were these telephone districts? What would a typical residential address be?
C.R. didn't have a formal system back then, your address was so many meters (varas) North (East etc) from a well known landmark. In the city, it was often a known commercial building; in the 'burbs, it was usually from a pulperia (general store); in the country, a numbered bus stop, or KM marker. Some locations could have quite lengthy descriptions.
Everytime I look at the pictures of your dad, I think "What's Trevor doing there?" There's no way he can every be mistaken for not being a Fisch. Love your stories!!! ~ Lori
PS sorry did not read that your phone was beige - still pretty cool!
Hola Susie - oh my goodness had not thought of Bosika in decades! Was his last name Riobuka?
If so, he was just a little boy when I knew him... His name might have been spelled Basika...
"Cheaper by the Dozen" led me to want 12-kids too!
Wow you had your own private phone (pink no less), that was pretty special!! I had shameful teen habit of unplugging the phone if it was a boy I did not wish to go out with. Mom's rule was that you went with the first boy to ask you... call screening would have taken care of that problema!
Adios, Tootsie
Love the pink phone! I understand the worry gene. My siblings and I are anxiety prone. I used to have a whistle to blow into the phone on prank callers. It was effective, I think.
