February 21, 1972 Mon.
Dear Diary:
No school today cause of Washingtons birthday. Hale Washington!!! I finished “Lazarillo de Tormes” & I did the report. Mom’s real sick. She thinks one of her muscle in her back broke. It hurts her to move her arms & head. Dr. came. Davids home. I have a piece of skin growing on me. Pray its not cancer or anything that has to be burned off etc. Dad went to a party I did the wash. Read mag & I watched T.V. Pray its nothing serious just normal. Please. Love, Susie
BYE!!!!
Note: Pretty cool that doctors made house calls. I believe his name was Dr. Zepeda and he was a wonderful physician. I was terrified of getting cancer and fortunately did not have to deal with it in the 1970’s when it was a death sentence. Later, I survived Non Hodgkins Lymphoma twice which has allowed me to be cautiously optimistic.

Substitute in Spanish a young guy. He looks so inocent. Moms much better. I did the wash. I was in a bad mood today. I had tennis lesson. I won Becky 3 game & she 1 game. I played tennis with David in the St. I talked a long time with the jueces girl. Did homework. Talked to Grandma. Wrote them a 4 page letter.

Note: Jueces daughter, must have been the Judge’s daughter who was a neighbor. We talked to my Grandma Hughes in Cleveland, Ohio via the ham radio (see blog entry Jan 31-Feb 2). She and I both had a hard time remembering to say “over” when we finished our sentences.
The reclusive millionaire Howard Hughes was secluded on the 7th floor of the Intercontinental Hotel (see blog entry Jan.10-12 for photo). He was at that time a germaphobe and allegedly had many other phobias.

Dear Diary:
No tests today. The fastest I’ve done in typing is 38/5. I stayed for Glee Club. I don’t see any Glee in it. I went home on the bus. Did I tell you were going to Spain & Portugal
March 17, 1972!!! I washed my hair. It was filthy so much wind & dust here. I did my homework. I watched TV. Lucia Sombra had her operation & they were taking her bandages off but then put them back on then it ended for the day. Boy. I read alittle bit “I’m a Lucky Guy.”
BYE!!!
Note: Lucia Sombra was a telenovela that I watched.

Wow! I didn't know your dad was a ham operator! Wonder if he got into that back in Ecuador?
No glee in Glee Club?! Ha ha! Pretty clever!
HA HA HA! "Glee Club. I don't see any Glee in it." Priceless!
Always enjoy reading your blogs, seeing the photos! Love your spelling of soccer, humor , honesty with yourself. I don't think you liked Glee Club - did you get extra credit or just something to do? Hugs to you🤗
