Dear Diary:
I went out to breakfast. I almost died! Mr. Jones was here & me in P.J.’s. I went to school with Missy & painted abit for Student Union. I really felt out of place. We painted a stool red. Got more on me than chair. Missy stayed for lunch. Becky had Cynthia too. David’s on a camp out hope he’s having fun. Played concentration, walked in park. Watched Billy try to have his airplane take off. Becky & I went over to Missy. Saw a dead snake. Ann came over to Missy’s with note. She stayed a bit. Walked her home. I & Becky too ate at Coverstons. Played Bombarding & Hearts (card game fun!!)

Note: Our bedroom area was separated by a long corridor from the living area, so unless you heard the doorbell, you weren’t aware of visitors. Mr. Jones worked with my Dad.

Dear Diary:
We went to mass. When we came home I watched T.V. for lunch we had turkey & dressing (leftovers from Xmas). I did History homework, Math & read quite awhile on the Tale of 2 cities. 79 pages to go! I watched T.V. David came home at 3. He just passed out on the sofa & has been sleeping since skiped supper. Mom and Dad went to Mariylns party (Birthday). I’m going to invite Ann over (Barth & maybe sister) on Tues. I hope we have fun & we can be friends. Oh well it’s almost 8:30 & I’m pooped, yaw! Night!!!

Note: My Dad always flew in a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas from Miami, so Mom could make her traditional dinners: turkey, brown gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and lime jello. The leftovers would be put in the freezer for later.

Dear Diary:
School today. I didn’t wear my contacts cause my eyes itched like mad. I read newspapers. I invited Ann Barth over for tomorrow. Studied for English test. I watched T.V. at 5:00 to quite late. Oh I‘m tired I have math test & don’t understand it at all.

We had a subscription to the Miami Herald so we could keep up with the American news. I loved the comics. My favorites were: Brenda Starr Reporter, Nancy, Rex Morgan M.D., Family Circle, Judge Parker, and Hi and Lois.

Maybe because Miami had/has a large Latino population, The Herald was distributed throughout L.A. We could buy it in San José and Bogotá on Sundays.
We only got comics and Three Stooges in English, so didn't watch too much TV (we should have, it would have helped us learn more) I don't remember watching any of the programs other than news, but oddly, I remember some of the advertising jingles, which were pretty lame, but no worse than in the states.
Thanks for sharing!!!!!
I think you watched TV more then than you do now! I've increased my time because I don't have to limit it. Did you watch Spanish speaking shows, English or dubbed ? Thanks for sharing.
I loved reading the comics! This brought back memories of Sunday afternoons after church. Did you and Ann Barth become friends? I'm betting you did.
I haven't seen a Brenda Starr comic in forever! I loved reading about her and her mysterious husband. Frozen turkeys from Florida. Now, that's pretty cool!
