Mrs. Nelly de Habed was an outstanding Spanish teacher from Chile. She had us reading all the Spanish classics. El sí de las niñas (The Maiden’s Consent) was written by Leonardo Fernández de Moratín as a three-part play in 1801. Francesca is a poor 16-year-old girl set up in an arranged marriage by her mother to a wealthy 60-year-old man, Diego, whom she has never met. The saga continues as Francesca is in love with someone else.

Seeing you in the picture with Alfred's doghouse, reminds me that your Dad helped arrange Missy and Alfred's flight to Miami - did Alfred get to fly first class? Your Mom's chili recipe comes at a perfect time, the tree leaves are bursting with Fall colors and it is getting cool. Think I will make a batch - Tootsie
i have a favorite chili recipe I like too that makes me remember home. I especially remember when I was in High School, played soccer and got home way after dark. Mom had made that chili for supper and kept mine warm on the stove - no microwaves in 1973! I'd love to read that book or series, but would be more of a chore to do so in Spanish. Any idea if available in English? I can research too, but thought you might know. Have a good week until next blog! 😊
Such wonderful memories! That Chile recipe sounds yummy!!
Great pictures and that recipe sounds delish! Sounds like your dad had a fun birthday party that year!
I want to try your mother's chili recipe
Loved your diary entries.
