Dear Diary:
We went to the beach. El Velero. We had fun. We didn’t rent a room this time. Brought lots of chairs. No one was there but us till the end a few cars came. We rented 2 boats this time. Becky & David in one, Dad & I in another. We played ball, swam etc (ate too). I washed my hair & later on I washed Davids & used a creme rinse. I went over to Missy’s. Gisela was there. Made a few cookies. Dad’s friend came to dinner. I watched T.V. I saw a movie “The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini. Read a bit on María. Pray I finish it soon.
BYE!
Note: It was a fun day at the beach. Mom never learned to swim and was afraid of the water but made sure we all learned to swim at an early age. She always brought a book to read while we played. I remember riding on the paddle boats that day as we made up a song “We are the Fisches…” which we sang at the top of our lungs. It was a simple song, but whenever I was going through a rough patch my Dad would sing it to me. I in return have sung it to my boys changing the name to Fisch-Good.
Not sure why I washed my brother’s hair other than he wanted to try out my creme rinse and I was afraid he would use up my bottle.

Raycarol I don’t remember her last name. She’s oh ya! Morgan. Anyway she very nice. I really like her. Missy & her mom & dad came over for Missy’s malaria pill. Stayed awhile. I watched T.V.

Note: Sunday was the designated day to take our malaria pill. Missy came every Sunday for hers as we had all been exposed to Malaria the previous time we went to the beach.

A Kermės was a festival that the American-Nicaraguan School put on every year to raise funds. Each class ran a station. This year we were in charge of the “Jail” - a student bought a ticket to put someone in jail; they paid to get out. I don’t remember doing the incense room but I am sure we burned sandalwood as that was a popular scent.
Maria was a novel written in Spanish by the Colombian author Jorge Isaacs between 1864-1867. It was about the tragic love of two cousins Maria and Efrain. He goes off to Bogota for four years of high school. When he returns they profess their love for each other but he goes off to medical school in London. He returns when he hears she is ill but she has already died.

Never heard of El Valero beach Susie... we mainly went to Massachapa and Pochomil - dark sand beaches. Did you ever go to those?
We would go when mom and dad rented a house and it was so great to wake up early and walk on the beach. On those trips, I remember covertly reading what I thought were racy novels, one that the title remains in my mind was "Chocolates for Breakfast." Ha, ha, ha
We also went to those beaches for the day with the other teens as Peter and Paul Hoar had a nice blue Mustang convertible - we thought we were soooo cool!!
Thanks for reminding me of the Kermesses - forgot all about those, even…
I just love all this! I look forward to reading about your adventures every week!! Amazing you had a beach to yourself too! Love, Amanda S
I love that movie but didn't see it until I was an adult... on t.v.
Prima
Loved those Doris day and rock Hudson movies.
Ah! I remember the jails! Thanks for bringing these memories back!
