Dear Diary:
We sat all day just kidding. I was in a very bad mood this morning cause 1st of all I was woken up by David & Dad screaming or horsing around. 2d I counted my money & I only had 17 dollars. Every other year I have 30. Mom put some of my money in the bank by mistake for me. Well in the afternoon I was in a better mood. Went to Masaya with Missy & her Dad. Saw parts of Masaya that I‘d never seen before. Saw how they make thread. Watched T.V.
BYE!!
Note: $30.00 was a lot at that time. I saved up my allowances and birthday/Christmas money for our trips to the U.S.
I remember our trip to Masaya with Missy and her Dad. We were on a mission to find Missy a big straw hat. She had a specific idea of what she wanted but nothing we saw fit the bill. Eventually we were successful, however I am not sure how she managed to transport it to the U.S.!

Dear Diary:
We went to 11:30 mass & then to the supermarket. Read on Alfred Hitchcok. We had a feast for lunch. Dad made steacks, mom made jello & potatoes with sour cream uhm! Well I got a body suit for my birthday. I planned what I’m bringing to the States. Washed my hair. We went to Missy’s house for supper. We had tacos. Watched T.V.
BYE!!
Note: I was very excited about getting a bodysuit but they were made of polyester and snapped at the bottom. They were uncomfortable and hot especially in Managua’s climate. It was also difficult when you used the facilities. They did look nice and your top did not slide out.
Dad taught us to travel with just a carry-on; however when we flew back to the U.S every summer, we also took an empty suitcase to buy things that weren’t available in Nicaragua.

Dear Diary:
We went to school. Well I didn’t get any awards. Becky & David got scholarship. Boy David got loads of awards! Well I passed. Final grades all A, B & 1 C & 1 C+ Not to bad right! I’m a sophmore (suffer more). I had tantrum of jeolosy today! Becky got more than me for her graduation. Not really jealous. Lets see she got roses. Missy came over to spend the night. Watched T.V. Dad’s sick so we didn’t get to go out & celebrate Becky’s graduation. Tomorrow we will. Dad’s got diarhea.
BYE!!
Note; It was hard not to be jealous. The scholarship award was bragging rights and I wanted one too. School was always easier for my brother. Mom called me the green eyed monster when I got jealous. I was a brat at times. It is funny until I was ten years old I physically had green eyes like my mom. They have since turned hazel / brown.

Ha!! I remember the body suit!!
It’s so difficult when a sibling has an incredible memory or school is a breeze for them.
Body suits are back, but I will not be rushing out to grab any!! Did that and don’t need it again!
I had an older brother so I know the feeling!
Enjoyed your diary as always!
MJ
For sure the body suit! Those memories of fashion!
Grades. I never did as well as my siblings.
Susie you always bring out so many memories. Your bodysuit looks great and Missy is cute in her Masata sombrero. Mom loved Masaya (Nidiri too) she shared plants with a local ladies whose yards she admired. However, other than going to TipTop restaurant their special rotisserie chicken, I have no memory of Dad going there... Really cannot imagine him sombrero shopping😂
Somehow I missed the bodysuit craze - never had one and probably a good thing! So fun to read The Adventures and Misadventures of Susie Fisch - Love, Tootsie
Those body suits and jumpsuits were cool, but a pain!
Every two years when we went to the States, we would take suitcases with empty duffle bags inside to load up on stuff we couldn’t get, too. Besides the latest clothes, makeup and records, we’d buy stuff like aluminum foil, salad dressing packets, good toothpaste, candy (since my dad didn’t work for the embassy or US military, we couldn’t use the commissary).
