Dear Diary:
Quess what!! In P.E. were playing soccer & I me, clumsy old me made a goal. Mrs. Burton almost fainted. What a shock! I had a math test. I got 4 wrong out of 10. Pray I do good in typing this 6th weeks. 11 more days of school! I had a tennis lesson. I did the worst thing in my life. I told David who Missy liked. Pray that she’s not mad! Pray! I’m really sorry oh well. I watched T.V. Washed my hair. Did my homework. Today is the day David & I made our 1st communion.
BYE!!!
Note: I remember the day David and I made our First Communion. We were living in Colombia. I was seven; he was six. We walked solemnly together but alone down the long aisle to the altar. After the ceremony, the mother Superior of my parochial school had a small breakfast for us including a cake decorated with hosts - communion wafers that hadn't been blessed yet. I was afraid to eat it but I did. It was delicious.
I am left-handed but kicked with my right foot shocking both Mrs. Burton and myself. How funny!
Breaking a confidence is a big deal but not the worst thing in life. Hopefully, I learned from this and Missy forgave me. I still remember the boy’s name but my lips are sealed!

Dear Diary:
I got a 96 on the Spanish test!!! 2’d highest grade. Rest were bad. I hope my grades stay this way! A on workbook in science. Stayed for Glee Club. In auditorium We sing in assembly Mon. It was alright but hot. Studied. I went to Missys she gave Becky & I some books. It rained today! Davids getting the honors today for being a Second Class Boy Scout. Mom went to ceremony. Watched T.V. Studied for English.
BYE!!
Note: David was a Boy Scout; I was never a Girl Scout. I don’t remember ever wanting to try it out. The idea of camping in the wilds of Nicaragua was not something my parents encouraged, although they did for my brother.
We didn’t find a picture of David in his uniform but he found one of his dog Buddy Bear wearing the uniform years later. How cool is that!

Dear Diary:
School. Had a hard English test. P.E. was so hot outside. Our team won. I was so hot that my hair was soaken wet. I stayed after for Typing. I’m writing this on Sun. I came home ate some cookies. I did my homework. Studied for Spanish. Watched T.V. Talked to Missy. Read on “Kerry.” Got our yearbook today.
BYE!
Note: It was so hot in Managua. After a rain, it was very humid. Sometimes, it was so hot that I would almost sweat out my contacts. Oh, the vanity of not wanting to wear glasses. I got my first pair at age 7. I was nearsighted and had astigmatism.

Gosh, you guys were really gussied up! We were raised in the Episcopal tradition...rites are similar to Catholicism. Little church right down off of Avenida Central in San José. I think they called it "Confirmation". I had to wear a tie too, which I no doubt, resisted.
Special family posts. How adorable was David's dog! Enjoyable read as always.
You and David are adorable on your way to First Communion! Love Buddy Bear in David's Scout uniform! We had a Girl Scout troop on Kilometro 7 circa 1958, but thank goodness we never had to camp out to hot!!
Africa pictures, right out of National Geographic - wonderful. Always look forward to the Susie Blog! Tootsie
PS I do want to know name of Missy's secret guy - guess it runs in the family, I did not want others to know which guy I had my eye on...
I feel like I read Kerry years ago. You’ve inspired me. I just found a deal on EBay and picked 4 Grace Livingston Hill books for under $15 (including “Kerry”). I think Adeline will enjoy them, too. Always a delight to read of your daily adventures and experiences! Love, AS 💜
Unsurprisingly I ready Kerry, too. Those books were very early precursors of all the Amish love stories that have been so popular the last few years. My Buddy says the most thrilling passages are likely the ones when the hero unties the heroine’s bonnet strings. In defense of our literary taste, we were little girls…….!
