Dear Flowers:

Christopher Columbus Day & Grandmas birthday. We went to the beach El Velero & Seehafers & later Cazares came. I went body surfing! FUN!!! We girls got attack by mud balls. We kids rented 2 boat & half way down my broke so it was fun bringing it back in. I’m all sun-burned.

Watched T.V.

BYE!!

Note: What fun it is having a holiday during the week. El Velero was one of my favorite beaches, and going with friends made it extra special. I loved renting paddle boats, and body surfing was fun. We didn’t have good sunscreens in the 70s, and I am now paying the price with frequent visits to the dermatologist to burn or cut off mostly basal cell and a few squamous cell carcinoma cancers.

Dear Flowers:

Friday the 13 BAD luck day! Honor Roll day no school for Dave & I. Went to Doña Mercedes & downtown to get Dave shoes. Stopped to Dads office. Picked up Becky. Read on Young Miss. Went to dentist & picked color again! Watched T.V. Lights went out around 6 came on 8:25. Writting Missy a letter.

BYE!

Note: Buying shoes was often an ordeal, as they didn't always make shoes for our big feet. My Dad wore a size 13 D, and he had to get his in the U.S.

Visiting my Dad at his office was a treat, as we didn’t do it very often.

Loved having new magazines to read.

I was going to the dentist to get a replacement of my porcelain front tooth that I lost in a rain storm.

Dear Flowers:

Seehafers took us to the matinee. It was packed! All (almost) from other schools. I sat with Lisa, Dave, Steve, Lydia & Lauren. Saw Butch Cassidy & Taste of Blood of Dracula. Went to American Church. Read Teen magazine.

BYE!!

Note: Going to a double feature was always fun. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is now considered a classic. Taste of Blood of Dracula was scary.

The American church was an English mass.

Pan Am - oh yes, the tippy top of airlines. I put in an application to be a stewardess, did not get hired. Think at 5'5" I was too short. That is my story!

Susie you loved Valero beach and I never heard of it. We were either at Pochomil or Massachapa.

Did you ever go deep-sea fishing at San Juan del Sur?

A week or so ago you brought up the word chocho... in Mexico it means old - as in "el ya esta muy chocho o chochito... "

Always fun to read your blogs. Tootsie

I loved paddle boating too, but don't think I could go far now - it's a leg workout for sure!

I'm assuming that if you made the Honor Roll , you don't have to go to school on Honor Roll day? If so, that's motivation to do your best to get good grades!

Yes, if you made the Honor Roll, you had a day off. It was a great motivator!

The last time I was on a paddleboat was at Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park when the boys were younger. It was so much fun! I would love to try it again.

Pan Am...the "Chosen Instrument"...what a rich history. The office exterior looks so typically urban L.A. of that era; the "rejas" on the windows & doors, the haphazard electric wires...were those apartments on the second floor? And the interior 60's décor... dark paneling was so popular then.

And yeah, what a cool map!

You referenced "before the earthquake" so I'm hoping your diary has much to say about this upcoming disaster....keeping us in suspense!

I will keep you in suspense, but more will be coming. As a preview, my Dad's office didn't survive. It was a cool map.

So Taste the Blood of Dracula gave me nightmares for what seemed like forever. Even wore a crucifix for months. Ahhhhh….to be a kid!

How cool that you remember that event. I think after that movie, I vowed not to watch scary movies. My kids and husband will tell you I am a scaredy cat for anything like that. I leave the room if one is playing on the TV. ha ha

I especially like the picture of Henry at the desk in his office. The enormous map on his wall is wonderful. It reminds me of those oil cloth ones we used to have in school classrooms. Did you have them in your classrooms there, too? I would love to find one for hanging someplace in my house——-though goodness knows where!

I do remember having maps in the classroom, and geography was a big part of the curriculum. I think you need to find a large one in your house. Maybe, Buddy will find you some wall space!
