Dear Flowers:

School!!! Nobody really complemented me but everyone complemented Pat. Oh, I got to alphabitize cards in the little library. We went to the C.C. I played abit of tennis. We went swimming. Steve & Lisa are spending the night here! I went to Miao’s party. It was alright. I must have gained 10 lbs.

BYE!!

Note: Mom always said that I had green eyes when I was envious, and the green-eyed monster was alive and well that day.

I always enjoyed alphabetizing the library cards or lists. Now, you simply press a button on the computer, and it sorts like magic.

Miao and her sister Chiu were good friends. Chiu was in my class, and Miao was a few grades ahead of me. We were in the choir together.

Diary October 27-28, 1972

Dear Flowers:

Got up at 15: to 11. Mrs. Seehafer took us to the country club for lunch & swimming. It was fun. We then went to movies (all of us except Mrs. Seehafer & Dave who is on a Boy Scout camp). We saw a stupid movie “El Perro Ladron” about a St. Benard that was a thief by Walt Disney. We (Beck & I) went to church. After church we went to Seehafer’s for supper. Now were back home.

YAWN!

BYE!

Note: The Seehafers were looking out for us as my parents were still in Costa Rica.

The English title of the movie was “My Dog, The Thief” and was originally shown in two parts on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1969. I definitely wasn’t shy about my opinion.

Dear Flowers:

Busy day!! Got up did some wash. Read a few comics. Worked on my oral report. Ate lunch. Worked some more on report. Did some more wash. David came back. Mom & Dad are back. Hurrah! Worked on report. Read some comics. Got to do a science (forgot) Wish me luck. & study for math. Wish me triple luck!!

BYE!!

Note: A relief to have my parents back from their trip to Costa Rica. It was stressful being in charge, but I felt good that my parents trusted me. It helped that I had great siblings!

I, too, wonder where many are. I heard that Chiu was somewhere out West, but that is all I know. We had many wonderful years in Managua.

Let me know who you are at my email address ( pescadita98@yahoo.c, or leave your name here. I would love to reconnect.

Better late than never - I must have picked up a bit of the mañana way of life!

Susie love the way you were a movie critic at such a young age... very thoughtful! I just went to the movies and came out wanting to be like Doris Day or some other empty headed things like what boys put their arms around what girl at the cine...

When we lived in Managua we used to take taxis everywhere when Mother or Elario (Tabacalera chauffeur that taught me how to drive and IMHO looked like Elvis) could not take us. I have no memory of riding the "bus."

So good to revisit such good times - Tootsie

It's fun getting flashes back of our past! Thanks for sharing! Mom drove a Plymouth with a three-speed manual transmission on the steering wheel! She drove us to and from school most days. I remember her always having her nose in a book when we would come out of school.

As a young teen in C.R., my allowance was proportional to my grades, so I was usually rather short of funds. One of the cheapest pastimes was going to the movies, and San Jose had many theaters, from the opulent to the seedy. First run movies would start out at the most opulent (Teatro Rex) and weeks later be sold to the seediest, (Teatro California) at much cheaper prices.

Getting around was super cheap; it was only 20 céntimos (2.3 cents US) for cross-town busses, altho back then San Jose was so small you could fast-walk the length of Avenida Central in 20 minutes, which was about the same time it took the busses, because of the traffic jams ("presas").…

I don't have any records from those days, but it had to be sometime in 1977.

Yeah, the basement parking floods occurred several times while I lived there. At least twice it was deep enough to damage cars. The first thing to flood was the elevator pit, overwhelming the sump pump. Then, as the first resident would take the elevator down to get their car, the elevator floor would splash into the water, shorting it out and stranding it there. Word would get out, and residents would run out in the rain and down the ramp to get their cars out before it got too deep.

I'd made friends with the elevator tech, and he showed me how, if it…

It was truly an international school, which was wonderful! I must have really enjoyed all the food at the party! I wish I remembered what they had served, but I don't.
