Dear Flowers:
I got a 91 on the History test. 3d highest grade!! Math test hard. Went to the C.C. Pat came along. We had fun. Played volley ball & keep away (with ball). Mr. Mrs.Hoar where over. Becky’s spending the night a Cynthias slummber party. Mom & Dad at Hingst. Read on Tippy Lockins.
BYE!
Note: Walter and Anita Hoar were good friends of my parents. Mr. Hoar ran the Victoria Brewery in Managua. Cerveza Victoria was very popular. When I was in Spain last month, I saw a booth at the Barcelona Airport advertising Cervezas Victoria, which may or may not be the same beer. I sent a picture to Pablo, Mr. Hoar’s son. He sent me back the jingle: “Estoy en la gloria, tomando Victoria.” (I am in the glory, drinking Victoria). Anyone remember it?
Last week, I mentioned Mrs. Currin and her son Woody. Becky was at a slumber party with the younger daughter Cynthia.

Dear Flowers:
I got up early & went with Dave for his golf lesson & afterwards played tennis. Instead of going to the movies with Gisela & boys we went to Las Colinas & played tennis & swam. The other guy was Peter. Alright but he couldn’t stand me. It was fun swimming getting the ball of boys. Leesa Cheeck tagged along. Tennis was ok. Watched T.V. I’m tired.
BYE!!!
Note: Not sure why I didn’t go with Gisela and her friends. I wonder how I knew that this Peter couldn’t stand me. I was probably reading too much into it. I am glad I still had a good time.

Dear Flowers:
Missy’s Birthday!! She’s 15! Wish her happiness throughout her life! Went to church. Went to old super. Did science outline. Read on Tippy Lockins. When will I finish it!!! We talked to Missy! I’m so happy! Watched T.V. Well Bye for now. I think I’ll hit the trail!
BYE!!
Note: How fun that it is Missy’s birthday. My Dad used his ham radio to call her.
I got to go to Nashville this week and met up with Missy and her husband for dinner. It is always as if no time has passed. My husband says we giggle like teenagers. I love it.

We lived about 4 blocks downwind of the Cerveceria de Costa Rica in San Jose, and I'll never forget the pungent unmistakable odor of a brewery. Like anything, you get used to it. As a young teen, I hadn't developed a taste for beer (yet), but who remembers "Malta"? For those unfamiliar with this Latin American delicacy, it's essentially beer, before going through the fermentation process, and therefore non-alcoholic. Sweet, high in calories, strong caramel flavour, was often given to underweight kids. I remember Malta Hatuey in Costa Rica, Malta Goya in Colombia and Malta India in P.R. I loved it as a kid.
Several years ago, just for grins, I bought a six-pack from my local grocer's imported aisle…
I had my first beer at the Cervezeria Victoria. One sip and I wondered how anyone could possibly drink a full glass. I’ve since figured it out!
Dave
I love that your personality of turning negatives into positives and going with the flow were part of your teenage self too! So wonderful that you got to meet up with Missy again - you two share time and memories that are special to you both and that's so great! I didn't realize you had that many blogs - I hope I read them all! Love you!
I love how you write. It brings back lots of memories to me. Thanks for sharing your stories!! They mean the world
Oh yes - the very handsome Walter Hoar - I had forgotten all about his good looks as well as his Boston accent. Most charming! Well, below is a Cervesa Victoria relic that sits on my kitchen porch! SALUD! Tootsie
