Dear Flowers:

Got up late. Rosa is on vacation. Independence day of Nic. 14th & 15th. I read on a Teen mag. & Beauty tricks. We had the best lunch pot pie (chicken & peas & onions)  YUM! I finally finished my Spanish Report. What a relief!!! I watched T.V. I read & finished “Freckled & Fourteen.” I read it before once but it’s still good. Mom & Dad are at movies “Godfather.”

BYE!!!

Note: Rosa was our maid.

September 15 is the national holiday commemorating Nicaragua‘s Independence from Spain in 1821. It is celebrated with parades, musical events, parties and lots of fireworks!

We memorized the national anthem in school and recited it before each assembly.

I still haven’t seen the movie Godfather and probably never will - too violent.

Pot pie is still one of my favorite meals. In Managua we made it with canned peas. I love the frozen ones better.

Dear Flowers:

Woke up (got up I mean) at 10:30. Read old Teen mag. In the afternoon we went to the movies. I went to the Cine-Arte. I saw “Cabaret” (over 18). It was with Lisa Minelli No PLOT!  Saw El Loco as usual I going to start reading on “Friday Child.”

BYE!!

Note: I was quite the critic stating Cabaret had no plot.

It was a treat to go to the movies with Mom and Dad.

Dear Flowers:

We went to the Imaculada church. Afterwards to the super. I read almost all day “Friday Child.” Its funny. Mr. Hingst was over. Studied abit for P.E. Talked to Pat.

BYE!!!

Note: Mr.James Hingst worked for Texaco and he and his wife Bernice were good friends of my parents. They later lived in Santo Domingo and we visited them often when we lived in Puerto Rico.

The group photo brings back memories of the good friendships we made in L.A. in those days. For whatever reason, socializing, having people over, going places with friends, just came more natural during the dozen or so years we spent in L.A. As teens, we enjoyed the company of our folks' friends as much as kids our own age.

I like that your Dad was "Mr. Casual" there; my Dad, being an engineer, always had his narrow ties. Mom bought him several Guayaberas, but he never wore them.

RE: Caberet: I never cared for musicals or plays much, but knowing the general theme of the movie, and being aware of your Dad's background, I wonder if, despite the "R" rating,…

Rich, thank you for your encouraging words. My Dad always loved wearing guayaberas, he said they were so comfortable.

Oh my Henry is quite a bit taller than my Dad! The guy in the bowtie - not sure, could he be Juan Parody?

Nice to see the words to the Nicaraguan National Anthem - thanks. Tootsie

Thanks, Tootsie. I was so excited when I found my original copy of the Nicaraguan National Anthem. Thanks for filling in the name that I didn't know. Unfortunately, most of my photos don't have names on them and I have to go by memory.

I like pot pies too! Sundays we have what we want for supper and I try to have a few on hand. I have a recipe for one from a book I read, but haven't made it yet. When I do, I will definitely use frozen peas!
